While I was away on my travels to Belize and Guatemala I had three nights of Mayan encounters.
We were staying at a Eco Lodge in the Jungle of Belize right above the Macal River. It was a really cool place. The first night it took me awhile to fall asleep since I was a little fearful about something crawling on me during the night. You see the thatched roof didn’t meet the walls so anything could have come right in, there wasn’t any power so I slept with my flash light at my side.
After I was fast asleep for a few hours I could hear music playing behind the cabana. Since there were only screens and no glass in the windows we could hear everything outside. I opened my eyes and laid there…the music was faint and since we were the only people around I wondered where it was coming from. Then I looked across the room and out the three large screened windows. I could see shadows moving around and when I shined the flash light at them they disappeared. I got out of bed and went to the windows/screens and glanced out. It was a full moon and I could see all the way down the rolling lawn/jungle to the river. On the grassy area below were lots of shadows dancing around in the moon light. I just watched them and then I went back to sleep.
The second night I was again awoken by the music….then I saw the shadows. This night made me feel a little uneasy so I didn’t watch them…I crawled back in bed, pulled the sheets over my head and made myself go back to sleep.
The next night at dinner we were all talking (the other couple and the owner) about all kinds of things. Half way through dinner I just couldn’t keep it in any longer….so I began to talk about my experiences with the music and the shadows. Phyllis, the owner, kept asking me for more and more details. Then she piped up and told me about her experience in our cabana. When she was building the place her camp site somehow caught on fire and she lost her tents and everything. Our cabana was near completion so she had no choice but to sleep in it that night. She told me that she too was awoken in the night to music…when she looked out she too saw the shadows dancing on the grass. She told me that it scared her so much that she did not sleep a wink that night. She was also relieved to hear that someone, other than her, had seen them as she thought she was just mad or something that night.
That night I was awoken again to the sound of the music. It was like drums and chanting coming from up the hill behind the cabana. There is a stack of rocks that might have been a Mayan ruin up the hill behind the cabana and that was the direction of the music. I sat and listened for a moment…then when I got up to look out the front it started to rain harder then I have ever heard it rain. It was an amazing sound and the music stopped.
I wonder now if the spirits were doing a rain dance. The owner of the Eco Lodge had been telling us about her fears because there hadn’t been any rain. It rained all that night and part of the next day.
I will never forget the music that woke me there every night, nor will I forget the shadow people dancing in the moonlight. I tried to get a photo and all I got was an orb that is most likely a little flying bug. |

| Oh and NO ONE else heard the music and we were the only people in 200 acres of Jungle land. |

You would LOVE IT!
I am ready to move there and be a guide at one of the ruins.
The Mayan's were an amazing advanced culture. |

I have to go see those Islands. I love learning about the Minoans. Plus they are a top contender for the Atlantian Society. I love ancient history. |
