So many people today are fascinated with demons and the dark side of the spirit realm. They want to look scary and act scary. Is it because angels, light, positive energy is boring to them?
Is it because it is taboo territory in our society that people are now being drawn to this movement? I see it alot in our youth of today and find it a bit disturbing. Is this the new melliniums flip-side to the 60's movement of peace, love, light?
What do you think? |

I think the movement is heading that way with our youth because that is what they are fed their entire lives by the media.
The media only reports on the negative and horrific things that man does to man.
I was so impressed by the media covering those heros in NYC. We need more of that kind of "Feel Good" news reporting. That would drive others to want to go out there and make a difference in someone else's life!
I know when I was growing up the kids I hung out with were into Death Metal. We all acted bad because then people left us alone. We would rather be left alone than to be bothered by anyone.
Let's face it...most of the youth of today have had to raise themselves. Their parents were too busy working to have all the materilistic crap that they felt they needed and that they felt their children needed. ( I raised myself too!)
The youth of today needed a parent to be waiting at home for them after school. To make sure they did their homework, give them a snack and ask them how thier day went.
I was made fun of by one of my dearest friends once because I played with my kids everyday when they were little.
We had tea parties, played play dooh and did activities. I used to take them to the Phoenix Zoo almost everyday at 5:00pm so we could watch the Zoo keepers feed the animals.
I just felt that material crap wasn't worth having a total stranger raising my kids. So I spent money on Zoo memberships and craft supplies!
And my friend who laughed at me, well her kids grew up to be a mess. She has three grandbabies and they all live on welfare!
I know she wished she had taken the time to play with them now!
Sorry I am vearing off from your question.....
I think everyone shifts toward the darker side of things because it is easier to hide behind. It also has a shock value that can get attention in some cases. |

Well, the study of demonology includes angels (just under a "scary" name). I like to refer to both. The Archangel Michael kicks butt. Sometimes I get sick of the darker side of things and like to think about the lighter side of life. Just not as fun to have a conversation about :D "So are you happy?" "Yup!" Doesn't lead to much in lieu of a dialogue :D Okay the question is why don't we think of angels? I think especially in Utah we don't really think about angels as much as say a person in a Southern state. Why is that? Religious background? I know we have angels in the Mormon religion but they really sit on the back burner when we learn about things in church. Course it could just be me. I never paid attention anyways |

I think the happy, burn your bra and be free era of the 60's had alot to do with the war. People were sick of seeing all those soliders coming home in boxes over a war that no one wanted.
Sad that we are in the same fix now and no one wants to start a happy movement!!!!
Back to the kids.....the kids in the 60's also had stay at home Mom's to raise them!
I also think religion overall has gotten a bad rap in our country. We don't want to mix church and state so we have abolished religious thinking all together. Well except here in Utah...it is always part of the media!!! |

Okay to get personal I never wanted to learn about spiritiual things. As a younger child I was too busy getting beat up on the bus for NOT going to church. People were so busy worrying about the fact I didn't go to church then to pay attention to me as a person. So I grew up odd and lonely. Too evil for the church factions and too goody goody for the non-church factions. I hate being made fun of cause my name is Sascha or I'm artistic and "dark" (I guess I'm goth but I'm just me). I hated getting beat up for my family not being active. So talking about the light just isn't an issue to me. It is easier to hide in the dark like Lyddia says I just grew up how I needed to. Lonely but strong in my own spirituality. |

I think its also easier to be angry than to take responsibility and move on in your life. This generation is raised to blame everyone else but theirselves. "Its the governments fault I cant make any money" "Its my parents faults that I dont like myself"...so on and so forth. When you are constantly blaming everything and everybody for what a mess your life is, it makes it so much easier to be negative and look at the darker side of life.
On the other hand, however, it is also human nature to be curious about the dark side. Most people get a rush from being scared, and the dark side is pretty scary. Some people thrive off that constant fear, and become obsessed with it. |

| But then again what's dark to one person isn't dark to another. I think the fear of the unknown is the darkness. What we do is go into the dark and reveal that there's something going on but it's not really all that bad once you learn about it. Sometimes you'll run into a baddy but in the long run the only thing lurking in the darkness is your fear of the dark :D |

| That is very true. It is all perspective. With that said, I still think the dark side (however one defines it) is still fascinating to some people. |
